* One Copyright Update to rule them allRémi Verschelde2023-01-051-29/+29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As many open source projects have started doing it, we're removing the current year from the copyright notice, so that we don't need to bump it every year. It seems like only the first year of publication is technically relevant for copyright notices, and even that seems to be something that many companies stopped listing altogether (in a version controlled codebase, the commits are a much better source of date of publication than a hardcoded copyright statement). We also now list Godot Engine contributors first as we're collectively the current maintainers of the project, and we clarify that the "exclusive" copyright of the co-founders covers the timespan before opensourcing (their further contributions are included as part of Godot Engine contributors). Also fixed "cf." Frenchism - it's meant as "refer to / see".
* Code quality: Fix header guards consistencyRémi Verschelde2022-07-251-3/+3
| | | | | Adds `header_guards.sh` bash script, used in CI to validate future changes. Can be run locally to fix invalid header guards.
* Replace most uses of Map by HashMapreduz2022-05-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | * Map is unnecessary and inefficient in almost every case. * Replaced by the new HashMap. * Renamed Map to RBMap and Set to RBSet for cases that still make sense (order matters) but use is discouraged. There were very few cases where replacing by HashMap was undesired because keeping the key order was intended. I tried to keep those (as RBMap) as much as possible, but might have missed some. Review appreciated!

* Remove `RES` and `REF` typedefs in favor of spelled out `Ref<>`Hugo Locurcio2022-05-031-2/+2
| | | | | | These typedefs don't save much typing compared to the full `Ref<Resource>` and `Ref<RefCounted>`, yet they sometimes introduce confusion among new contributors.

* Add GLES2 2D renderer + Linux display managerlawnjelly2021-10-301-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | First implementation with Linux display manager. - Add single-threaded mode for EditorResourcePreview (needed for OpenGL). Co-authored-by: clayjohn <claynjohn@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Fabio Alessandrelli <fabio.alessandrelli@gmail.com>
* Replace BIND_VMETHOD by new GDVIRTUAL syntaxreduz2021-08-221-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | * New syntax is type safe. * New syntax allows for type safe virtuals in native extensions. * New syntax permits extremely fast calling. Note: Everything was replaced where possible except for `_gui_input` `_input` and `_unhandled_input`. These will require API rework on a separate PR as they work different than the rest of the functions. Added a new method flag METHOD_FLAG_OBJECT_CORE, used internally. Allows to not dump the core virtuals like `_notification` to the json API, since each language will implement those as it is best fits.

* Modernize atomicsPedro J. Estébanez2021-02-181-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | - Based on C++11's `atomic` - Reworked `SafeRefCount` (based on the rewrite by @hpvb) - Replaced free atomic functions by the new `SafeNumeric<T>` - Replaced wrong cases of `volatile bool` by the new `SafeFlag` - Platform-specific implementations no longer needed Co-authored-by: Hein-Pieter van Braam-Stewart <hp@tmm.cx>
* Modernize ThreadPedro J. Estébanez2021-01-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | - Based on C++11's `thread` and `thread_local` - No more need to allocate-deallocate or check for null - No pointer anymore, just a member variable - Platform-specific implementations no longer needed (except for the few cases of non-portable functions) - Simpler for `NO_THREADS` - Thread ids are now the same across platforms (main is 1; others follow)
* Update copyright statements to 2021Rémi Verschelde2021-01-011-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Happy new year to the wonderful Godot community! 2020 has been a tough year for most of us personally, but a good year for Godot development nonetheless with a huge amount of work done towards Godot 4.0 and great improvements backported to the long-lived 3.2 branch. We've had close to 400 contributors to engine code this year, authoring near 7,000 commit! (And that's only for the `master` branch and for the engine code, there's a lot more when counting docs, demos and other first-party repos.) Here's to a great year 2021 for all Godot users 🎆

* Style: clang-format: Disable KeepEmptyLinesAtTheStartOfBlocksRémi Verschelde2020-05-141-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Which means that reduz' beloved style which we all became used to will now be changed automatically to remove the first empty line. This makes us lean closer to 1TBS (the one true brace style) instead of hybridating it with some Allman-inspired spacing. There's still the case of braces around single-statement blocks that needs to be addressed (but clang-format can't help with that, but clang-tidy may if we agree about it). Part of #33027.
* Style: Set clang-format Standard to Cpp11Rémi Verschelde2020-03-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | For us, it practically only changes the fact that `A<A<int>>` is now used instead of the C++03 compatible `A<A<int> >`. Note: clang-format 10+ changed the `Standard` arguments to fully specified `c++11`, `c++14`, etc. versions, but we can't use `c++17` now if we want to preserve compatibility with clang-format 8 and 9. `Cpp11` is still supported as deprecated alias for `Latest`.
* Drop old semaphore implementationPedro J. Estébanez2020-03-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | - Removed platform-specific implementations. - Now all semaphores are in-object, unless they need to be conditionally created. - Similarly to `Mutex`, provided a dummy implementation for when `NO_THREADS` is defined. - Similarly to `Mutex`, methods are made `const` for easy use in such contexts. - Language bindings updated: `wait()` and `post()` are now `void`. - Language bindings updated: `try_wait()` added. Bonus: - Rewritten the `#ifdef` in `mutex.h` to meet the code style.
* Reimplement Mutex with C++'s <mutex>Pedro J. Estébanez2020-02-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Main: - It's now implemented thanks to `<mutex>`. No more platform-specific implementations. - `BinaryMutex` (non-recursive) is added, as an alternative for special cases. - Doesn't need allocation/deallocation anymore. It can live in the stack and be part of other classes. - Because of that, it's methods are now `const` and the inner mutex is `mutable` so it can be easily used in `const` contexts. - A no-op implementation is provided if `NO_THREADS` is defined. No more need to add `#ifdef NO_THREADS` just for this. - `MutexLock` now takes a reference. At this point the cases of null `Mutex`es are rare. If you ever need that, just don't use `MutexLock`. - Thread-safe utilities are therefore simpler now. Misc.: - `ScopedMutexLock` is dropped and replaced by `MutexLock`, because they were pretty much the same. - Every case of lock, do-something, unlock is replaced by `MutexLock` (complex cases where it's not straightfoward are kept as as explicit lock and unlock). - `ShaderRD` contained an `std::mutex`, which has been replaced by `Mutex`.

* Make core/ includes absolute, remove subfolders from include pathRémi Verschelde2018-09-121-2/+2
| | | | | | This allows more consistency in the manner we include core headers, where previously there would be a mix of absolute, relative and include path-dependent includes.
* Reduce unnecessary COW on Vector by make writing explicitHein-Pieter van Braam2018-07-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit makes operator[] on Vector const and adds a write proxy to it. From now on writes to Vectors need to happen through the .write proxy. So for instance: Vector<int> vec; vec.push_back(10); std::cout << vec[0] << std::endl; vec.write[0] = 20; Failing to use the .write proxy will cause a compilation error. In addition COWable datatypes can now embed a CowData pointer to their data. This means that String, CharString, and VMap no longer use or derive from Vector. _ALWAYS_INLINE_ and _FORCE_INLINE_ are now equivalent for debug and non-debug builds. This is a lot faster for Vector in the editor and while running tests. The reason why this difference used to exist is because force-inlined methods used to give a bad debugging experience. After extensive testing with modern compilers this is no longer the case.
* Add missing copyright headers and fix formattingRémi Verschelde2018-01-051-0/+1

I can open your eyes Make you see your bad indent Force you to respect the style The core devs agreed upon A whole new world A new fantastic code format A de facto standard With some sugar Enforced with clang-format A whole new world A dazzling style we all dreamed of And when we read it through It's crystal clear That now we're in a whole new world of code
* Refactoring: rename tools/editor/ to editor/Rémi Verschelde2017-03-051-0/+134
The other subfolders of tools/ had already been moved to either editor/, misc/ or thirdparty/, so the hiding the editor code that deep was no longer meaningful.
